How to Keep Students Motivated

It’s hard to believe that it’s already April. The school year is flying by, and it won’t be much longer until summer vacation is here. With students counting down the days until the end of another year, it can be hard for them to stay focused. But now, with end of the year tests and projects coming up, is hardly the time for daydreaming in class. It’s natural for students’ minds to wander with the end now in sight, but that doesn’t mean you can’t reel them back in. Try some of these tips to keep your students motivated as the end of the school year approaches.

Stress Structure

As the orderly tends to chaos, so routines tend to fall apart over the course of the year. Students may have gotten out of the habit of using organizational tools like agendas to keep track of work they need to do. Make sure your students are using these tools to keep them focused and on track for the end of the year.

Take the Learning Outside

Are all eyes in the room wandering outside to the warm sunny weather? Take the cue and bring the class outside. Choose a subject that’s conducive for outdoor learning like English, where kids can read aloud and discuss the reading. Kids will love the spontaneous activity and it will do wonders to refocus them.

Offer Extra Credit

For students who are between grades, extra credit serves as a great motivator to change that C to a B or that B to an A. Have students present extra credit projects in front of the the class to show them off.
