Celebrate Read Across America Day with Dr. Seuss School Supplies

Worlds with wizards and medieval castles. A group of entrepreneurial teenagers starting their own babysitting business. A young girl masquerading as a boy aboard a 17th century ship. Though vastly different universes, these plotlines all have one thing in common: they can be found in books. Every year, the National Education Association (NEA) hosts the Read Across America Day during the week of Dr. Seuss’s birthday in order to promote awareness of these compelling worlds children and young adults can escape to in books.

Founded in the late 1990s as a counterpart to football pep rallies, Read Across America is meant to celebrate the act of reading in the same way that we often celebrate sports. It’s meant to get school-aged children pumped about sitting down criss-cross apple sauce and opening up a book that reveals a new world to them. The NEA has some great tips on how to make Read Across America a true event at your school; check them out here. We’ve got some ideas of our own up our sleeves: have a look at just a few of the Dr. Seuss goodies on sale in our store, make your celebration that much more fun.
