Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Creative Minds Publications Team Up with the NFL for 7th Annual Tackle Reading Event
In celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2, Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Creative Minds Publications teamed up with the NFL for the annual Tackle Reading Event. The collaboration marked the seventh year running that the organizations have come together to bring NFL teams to schools across the country for special Dr. Seuss-themed events. This engaging opportunity has NFL players trading the gridiron for the classroom where they spend time reading Dr. Seuss books to students.
NFL teams participating in this year’s event included the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins.
What is the Tackle Reading Event?
For decades, Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2 has been a special day for those celebrating the love of reading with Dr. Seuss-themed classroom and library events. And for the past seven years, the Tackle Reading program has joined in on the fun too. The annual Tackle Reading events bring together Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Creative Minds Publications and the NFL with a goal of inspiring a love of reading in children from underserved schools.
This unforgettable day includes a school-wide assembly featuring a current or former NFL player who reads a beloved Dr. Seuss book to all and shares a motivational message with the students, who are also welcome to ask questions of their guest star for the day. NFL team mascots, cheerleaders and other elements add to the unforgettable celebration.
In addition, a collection of both fun and educational items are gifted to participants to keep the learning and love of reading going strong. Schools receive a collection of Random House Children’s Books titles; each student receives a Dr. Seuss book from Random House Children’s Books as well as Dr. Seuss school supplies from GEDDES; and teachers receive a Dr. Seuss t-shirt and Cat in the Hat-style hat.
